South Africa 2027

Katie Adamson Conservation Fund & Madi Ort

South Africa: Women in Conservation Expedition

Wildlife. Conservation. Community.

Join Madi Ort, the Katie Adamson Conservation Fund, and the Zululand Conservation Trust for a women-only expedition into the heart of South Africa’s conservation landscape.

This is an opportunity to go beyond the safari experience and step into the work behind it. Spend time alongside conservationists and local partners, learn about the challenges and successes of protecting South Africa’s wildlife, experience the landscape firsthand, and connect with a community of women who share a curiosity about the natural world.

Come for the adventure. Leave with a deeper understanding of conservation and a community to carry it forward.

Who is This For?

This is a women-only trip because there is something powerful about creating space for women to learn, explore, ask questions, and build relationships with one another. This expedition is an opportunity to learn from the people and places around you, connect with other women, and discover where your own interests might lead.

You might be:

  • An aspiring conservationist looking for your first field experience

  • A student interested in wildlife or environmental careers

  • A zookeeper, educator, researcher, or conservation professional

  • Someone who wants to learn more about conservation firsthand

  • An experienced traveler looking for a more meaningful adventure

  • Simply someone who loves wildlife and wants to understand the work behind protecting it

You don't have to know exactly where you fit in conservation yet. That's part of the journey.

Come Curious. Leave Connected.

This expedition is about more than checking South Africa off your travel list.

It's about meeting the people doing the work, experiencing conservation firsthand, engaging with curiosity, and finding your own way to participate.

You bring your curiosity; we'll bring the wild.

Madi has spent the past decade working with wildlife and traveling into the field alongside conservation organizations and researchers across Africa, Central and South America, and Asia. Her goal isn't simply to show people wild places, but to help them understand the science, people, challenges, and opportunities behind conservation.

For this expedition, she'll be leading the KACF group and helping participants connect their travel experience with the bigger conservation story.

A few fun facts about Madi:

  • This will be her third expedition in Africa

  • 7th expedition with the Katie Adamson Conservation Fund

  • She loves a good adventure, especially when it gets her off the beaten path

  • Allergy-friendly travel is one of her specialties, so I’m very familiar with navigating food allergies and dietary restrictions while traveling internationally

Conservation With a Purpose

This expedition is made possible through the work of the Katie Adamson Conservation Fund and Zululand Conservation Trust, organizations working alongside conservation partners in South Africa.

The Katie Adamson Conservation Fund (KACF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting wildlife conservation through hands-on projects, partnerships, education, and meaningful opportunities for people to get involved. Rather than simply raising awareness, KACF works alongside conservationists and local partners to help turn passion for wildlife into practical action.

Rather than simply visiting a place, expedition participants will have the opportunity to better understand the conservation work happening there, the people involved, and the complexities that come with protecting wildlife and wild spaces.

Travel can be more than seeing the world. It can also be a way to understand it and support the people working to protect it.
